The contract to restore Can Ricart, the site of a former textile factory and the future House of Languages in Barcelona, was awarded to the architectural practice EMBT, led by the architect Benedetta Tagliabue, following an international call for tenders in 2006. Building work on the institution's new headquarters is expected to begin in late 2009.

The House of Languages will include an exhibition area of some 2,000 m2, a media library, an auditorium, multipurpose areas for independent projects and activities, and a restaurant and shop where the theme of languages will feature prominently.
