  Who is covered by CatSalut?
All citizens of Catalonia have the right to make use of the public healthcare services.

he Catalan healthcare system is defined by its commitment to guarantee universal healthcare.

In Catalonia, CatSalut is responsible for acknowledging the right of all citizens, that is, all people who are registered residents of any town in Catalonia, to receive healthcare assistance.

 


APPLY FOR YOUR PUBLIC HEALTHCARE CARD

Citizens
You can apply for the card at the primary healthcare center (CAP) and fill the application form and submit the following documents or authorize CatSalut consult online because the authorities concerned

- An identity document (Spanish Identity Card DNI, Foreigner’s Identity Card, NIE, passport, etc.).
- A certificate proving you are registered with your municipality, dated no more than three months prior to the application date. (Councils of Catalonia which CatSalut can check the census.)
- A photocopy of a document indicating you are registered with the Social Security system, MUFACE, MUGEJU or ISFAS. This document itself that you submit, if you are a beneficiary owner.

If the request is made on behalf of another person must provide appropriate documentation of legal represenció: either a photocopy of the family book or document that proves the above representation.

Your public healthcare card with be sent to you by mail.

New citizens

· Newborns

Persons born in Catalonia can access public health care performing the same procedures mentioned above.
If the birth occurred on a public health center, in some cases, the center who will perform the procedure with CatSalut to obtain TSI and CatSalut send the baby home.

· Recent arrivals to Catalonia

Recent arrivals who establish their residence in Catalonia. After registering with their town hall, they may apply for the public healthcare card like any other citizen.

Travelers

Travelers are considered to be any user of the public healthcare system who is away from his/her normal place of residence and needs healthcare assistance. 
If you will be making a trip, you should seek information to find out how you can be ensured your guaranteed healthcare needs will be covered.
