Josep Maria Vilaseca i Marcet Award. 4th Edition

The IEA is pleased to announce the call for the 4rd edition of the Josep Mª Vilaseca i Marcet Award.

The award is given to the best original and non-published manuscript dealing with any aspect of federalism or political decentralization. The value of the award is €20,000. Manuscripts may be submitted in English, French, Italian, Catalan or Spanish.

The deadline for applications finishes on the 15th of September2012.

Submission information and requirements

Manuscripts can be submitted in any of the following languages: English, French, Italian, Catalan or Spanish. In all cases, authors have to enclose a two-pages abstract and a table of contents both in English.

Works should have a maximum of 450 pages, 1.5 spacing, using Arial font size 12 for the main text and size 10 for footnotes.

Applicants must submit six copies of their work and an electronic version (in a CD) to the Register of the Institute of Autonomous Studies. 

The manuscript should not include any mention of the author's identity, but only the title of the work.

The work should be accompanied, in a sealed envelope (on which the title of the work shall be written) by the application form and a photocopy of the author's ID card or passport.

The decision on the award will be made by an international jury no later than the 15th of December 2012.

Award Criteria

Works will be evaluated according to the following criteria

a. Originality.
b. Theoretical contribution to the understanding of the territorial organization of political systems.
c. Empirical evidence and primary sources of information
d. Methodological strength and conclusions' scientific rigor.
e. Link of the subject to the four priority research lines of the IEA:
- The development of self-government of Catalonia
- The Spanish "state of autonomies" and its evolution
- The Catalan self-government within the EU context
- Self-government and federalism
f. Link of the subject to other research lines of the IEA:
- The analysis of national and cultural pluralism.
- The treatment of minorities and national minority groups
