The Ministry of Welfare and Family Affairs opens in Girona the specialized intervention centre (CIE) for women victims of sexist violence. It is a pioneer resource in Spain that offers an integral service to women suffering sexist violence and their sons and daughters. This first centre is located at Salt, Girona. The Catalan government aim is to open a total of seven CIEs around the country, coinciding with the future territorial display of Catalonia in regions or “vegueries”. After Salt, the next CIEs will be located in Baix Llobregat, Barcelona, and Camp, Tarragona. This first CIE means a new integral model of attention to women victims of sexist violence. It’s pioneer in Spain, both for its facing of the problem with specific resources and for the ambition of the service. The actuation is framed on the Government’s compromises for the integral undertaking of violence in the V Plan of action and development of women policies in Catalonia 2005-2007. The specialized intervention centres for women victims of sexist violence (CIE) are public specialized services that offer information, attention and recuperation to all the women and their sons and daughters affected by violence processes, in order to facilitate the repairing of the harm suffered, by giving quality and tender attention. The CIE of Salt has meant a 202.000 euros invest in 2005 and is formed by the director, administrative staff, two psychologists, two social workers, two educators, a jurist, a labour inserter and a cultural mediator.
