The Generalitat of Catalonia is the pioneer administration in the country to have its own channel on Youtube, the most popular video exchange platform on the Internet.
The Generalitat, through its institutional portal Gencat, is thus added to the celebration tomorrow, 17 May, for Internet Day, a commemoration during which it will also start up a second new internet platform with multimedia contents: the release of the CliCat portal, a multimedia gallery of images, videos and audio clips that are accessible to citizens.
The Gencat channel on YouTube
The new Gencat channel on Youtube will initially contain a selection of institutional and services videos about what the administration offers citizens. You will also be able to see clips about Catalonia and its cultural and artistic heritage, although the government's objective is to continue filling it with many more contents as time goes by.
Generalitat channel on YouTube
The channel is available in three languages: Catalan, Spanish and English.
CliCat, multimedia gallery
The multimedia elements selected for the gallery are classified by subject areas, which let you learn about and see Catalonia from the angle of its natural wealth (landscapes, nature), cultural and artistic richness (cities, UNESCO World Heritage sites, Romanic architecture, Modernism, Palau de la Generalitat) and festivals and traditions (Sant Jordi or St. George Day, when Catalans exchange flowers and roses, La Diada, or National Catalonia Day on 11 Sept). There are also galleries that show users about the country's modernity and creative capacity (facilities, initiatives, entrepreneurs) and its history, with black and white images (B/W).
CliCat has been constructed using Flash to make user-friendly and interactive navigation possible, although it is also available in an HTML version. The galleries have been created using a corporate manager: the Iconographic and Multimedia Funds of the Generalitat (BIG).
100 million visits
With these new Internet spaces, the presence of the Generalitat of Catalonia is strengthened on the web, a presence that has its maximum recognition at this time in the 30% leap in the number of visits since April 2007. In April, the portal multiplied the visits registered compared to the same period last year by three. In achieving this success, the number of visits surpassed 100 million last year.
