A programme has been launched to preserve documentary sources related to Catalan businesses
The Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Culture and the Media have presented the "Initiative to support historical business archives". The aim of this project is to preserve documentary sources related to Catalan businesses as part of an overall plan to establish a record of Catalonia's industrial past.
The initiative has the support of leading Catalan entrepreneurs and aims to raise awareness in the Catalan business community of the importance of preserving the records of Catalan companies in view of their documentary and historical value. To protect these documents from neglect and deterioration the Government will offer companies that wish to support the project two options:
The Government will provide advisory support for them to set up their own historical archives with the technical and organisational conditions required for the proper conservation of documentary material.
- Alternatively, companies may cede their documentation to the Catalan archive system. Its centre of operations is the National Archive of Catalonia in Sant Cugat, which already contains a section for business archives. The material may be donated permanently or loaned to the archive system.
This initiative is intended to protect for future generations a documentary heritage which illustrates and embodies the values which have made Catalonia a prosperous, modern and socially advanced country.
