Transfer of Rodalies

The Generalitat manages the service, the frequency of trains, the fares and timetables and inspects and assesses the quality of the service
As from 1 January 2010, the management of the Rodalies service will be transferred to the Generalitat of Catalonia as part of the deployment of the Catalonia Statutes. The transferred lines are those included in the Rodalias Barcelona metropolitan service and the Barcelona-Puigcerdà-la Tor de Carol line.
The aim is that local management of Rodalies will permit more prompt action and an improvement in service. The first changes in quality standards will be visible in such important aspects as information, passenger service, comfort in trains and stations, reliability, travelling time and frequency of trains.
In parallel, investments in the renovation of the fleet will continue and plans to add new trains and extend the railway network will continue.
Among the features to be launched within the new information and passenger service system are the new website and a new management system to deal with claims and suggestions and where information will be provided at all times on incidents occurring in the service.
Various suburban services will also be created in the area of Gerona, Camp de Tarragona and Terres de Lleida which will configure as part of Rodalies de Catalunya.
Finally, the transfer agreement establishes that, as the Spanish State has a contract with Renfe-Operadora for the period 2006-2010, the Generalitat of Catalonia will subrogate the position of the State until 31st December 2010. At this time, the Generalitat will be free to negotiate a new contract, 2011-2015, or choose a new operator.
