The Generalitat of Catalonia has launched the Virtual Procedures Office (VPO), a portal which brings together for the first time in a single website the over 1,000 procedures that citizens and companies may carry out through the Generalitat. Among these procedures, a total of 160 can be carried out entirely through the portal. This number is due to increase in the future.
Examples of the procedures that can be carried out online at the portal are applications for large family certificates, a reduction in the water tax, a certificate of habitability and enrolment in certain education exams in order to obtain the corresponding diplomas. For companies, among others procedures, there is the pre-notification of construction work, the notification of work related accidents with sick leave and the subscription to new tenders of Public Administration projects.
Advantages of the VPO:
More accessible: with this new system, citizens can locate Generalitat procedures more easily. Up to now, these have been dispersed over various websites and platforms.
Interconnected administrations: The VPO portal also has links with local and state procedures by means of joint searches in the Administració Oberta de Catalunya (AOC) and the 060 website, respectively. Thus, citizens can access any procedure without needing to know which administration is responsible. Only procedures pertaining to the Generalitat can be executed through this portal. Each administration is responsible for its competencies, but it works as part of a network in order to facilitate procedures for citizens. Thus, the Generalitat encourages the interconnection between the municipal telephone numbers 010 and 012, a coordination that has already been introduced in Gerona and is at test stage in Barcelona and Terrassa.
More efficient: If the procedure is carried out through the VPO, citizens are saved the step of delivering certain documents and also execution time, as unnecessary steps have been eliminated.
More transparent and personalized: Another of the novelties that the portal offers is the personal procedure file, where citizens can find the details of all the procedures carried out - in this first stage this service is available for approximately 140 procedures-, and the stage these procedures are at.
The VPO is the result of the aim to simplify and make administrative procedures more agile, in order to make Catalan companies more competitive as established in the 2008-2011 Strategic Agreement for internationalization, work quality and the competitiveness of the Catalan economy.
