The renovation of this airport which is now in operation involved an investment of €2.9 million euros

The Department of Territorial Policy and Public Works have completed the renovation and improvement works of the Pyrenees Airport-la Seu d'Urgell. The infrastructure has been reopened with the aim of dynamizing economic development and tourism in the mountain districts. The works carried out to optimise the airport cost €2.9 million euros.

The Pyrenees Airport-la Seu d'Urgell is located among the municipal districts of Montferrer i Castellbó and Ribera d'Urgellet in the Alt Urgell region. This airport owned by executive Josep Betriu was inaugurated on 29 July 1982 with a Barcelona-La Seu d'Urgell Aviaco flight and it began to operate commercial flights regularly until 1984, when the Cadi Tunnel was opened.

If considered appropriate by the PDUA, there are plans that the airport will be expanded in the future without needing to expropriate the land around it. It would only affect the hectares that currently belong to the Government of Catalonia and which are already part of this infrastructure. All private land that the current special plan had added as the future development of the airport and which had concerned the district has been excluded from the plan.

The Pyrenees Airport-la Seu d'Urgell is built on a rectangular area containing the hangars, control tower, buildings and aircraft parking area, which is connected to the runway. This infrastructure receives regular flights and can also be used in the event of an emergency. It is an airdrome for private flights and can manage aircraft of up to 17.5 metres long for approximately 8-10 people.
