Between 1 June and 15 September, the Health and Environment and Housing Departments are running the action plan to prevent the effects of a possible heat wave on the health of citizens (POCS)
The plan, which was activated for the first time in 2004, includes the earliest prediction possible of high-risk meteorological situations and the minimisation of the negative effects of a possible heat wave.
Excessive and sustained heat lead to a rise in mortality rates, especially among the elderly and people with chronic illnesses, and an increase in the number of unscheduled hospital admissions.
A new feature this year is a video with basic advice, which will be shown in waiting rooms at health centres and at pharmacies that have a screen.
What should you do in a heat wave?
